LAND O’LAKES, FL – (MONDAY, DECEMEBER 7, 2009): Optimal IdM, LLC, a premier Microsoft ISV and Identity & Access (IDA) partner, today announced integration of their Virtual Identity Server™ (VIS), the .NET Virtual Directory, and Microsoft’s Windows Identity Foundation. The integration of the Virtual Identity Server with Microsoft’s Windows Identity Foundation enables organizations to rapidly deploy claims-aware applications and cloud services to users that reside in multiple backend data stores (ex Active Directory, eDirectory, SQL Server, Oracle, etc). The Virtual Identity Server extends the functionality of Microsoft’s Windows Identity Foundation by supporting authentication and authorization based on authoritative information found across the enterprise.

Many organizations have multiple directories (such as Active Directory and eDirectory) and other data stores (such as SQL Server and Oracle) that contain users, groups and other authentication/authorization information within their environment. In the past, in order to deploy claims-aware applications to all of these users, organizations were required to deploy multiple instances of the Active Directory Federation Services (i.e. Secure Token Service – STS). Now, using a custom Secure Token Service which leverages the Virtual Identity Server, organizations can deploy one enterprise Secure Token Service with the Virtual Identity Server providing the a single real-time joined view of the multiple directories, forests and other data stores for authentication and authorization.

John Maring, Managing Partner of Optimal IdM, adds, "Our Virtual Identity Server’s integration with Microsoft’s Windows Identity Foundation simplifies our clients’ environments. It allows for faster deployment of claims-based applications and could services. In addition, the Virtual Identity Server’s built in support of dynamic and auto groups adds new, exciting authorization capabilities previous not available in Microsoft’s Windows Identity Foundation alone. Combing the power of Microsoft’s Windows Identity Foundation and Optimal IdM’s Virtual Identity Server, clients are now finding themselves able to make the leap into ‘cloud based’ applications and services. The clouds, and the stars, are now within their reach”.
