ORANGE COUNTY SALVATION ARMY DEPERATE FOR ASSISTANCE
ORANGE TX, JUNE 27, 2011: This story first broke in early June by a reporter from CBS affiliate KFDM Channel 6 in Beaumont Texas.
The Salvation Army in Orange Texas is currently running at a deficit and with the economy issues that face the entire country this particular non-profit organization that helps thousands across the community is currently unable to meet demand. Current Major John Queener has said that new requests have increased by fifty to sixty percent in the past few months and that number is expected to rise dramatically with the current heat wave in SETX. Michael and Laura Cox, the new Captains of the Orange County Salvation Army, take over for Major John Queener and his wife Linda in June, when the Queeners’ transfer to Fort Worth. Major Queener has said he does not want to leave such a burden on the new Captains.
The Salvation Army assists local area residents with housing assistance, utility payments, food, and clothing. This year the Orange Salvation Army is also having a summer day camp for children and there are many costs associated with having such an event. “Every Child deserves something fun during the summer” stated Major Queener.
Orange Texas’ own Orange County Car Crew (David Self Ford, Cecil Atkission Toyota, Granger Chevrolet, and Cecil Atkission Chrysler Jeep Dodge) have answered the call for assistance by starting the “Orange County Car Crew Challenge”. This group of automobile dealerships is pledging to donate $25 per vehicle sold for the month of July. Although generous, the dealer principals felt more could be done for this charity so they are challenging local businesses to match the amount that this dealer group has agreed to pledge. The Orange County Car Crew expects to sell enough vehicles to donate $5000 to the Salvation Army at the end of this drive but would like to at least double that with local business’ joining in with a match pledge. This drive will run through the end of July and the check will be given to the Salvation Army shortly thereafter to help meet the high demand.
Please visit the Orange County Car Crew website, www.orangecountycarcrew.com for further details and to make a matching pledge to the local Orange Salvation Army. Remember all donations are tax deductible.
