Orccon 2011 To Offer Gaming Opportunities on President's Day Weekend

See if you can change their mind this President's Day Weekend at Orccon 2011. February 18-21, the Sheraton Gateway Los Angeles Hotel will host Orccon, Southern California's gaming convention for the whole family. Children 12 and under $5 with adult admission.

You could spend the weekend outside – or you could spend it fighting off mutant aliens, settling a new country, and making new friends – your choice. Orccon, a Strategicon games convention, features video games, board games, collectible (and regular) card games, miniatures, even live-action role playing games (LARPs). Don’t settle for another boring picnic at the park – join the hordes at the LAX Sheraton Gateway and run your own Italian palazzo (Princes of Florence), or participate in a battle of wizards (Magic the Gathering), or work quickly to save the world from the a raging epidemic (Pandemic).

The year's Orccon features the chance to meet elite of the gaming world. Play a game with Bruno Faldutti, French sociologist and historian, and coincidentally designer of some amazing games, including Ad Astra, Mission: Red Planet, and Citadels. Rub elbows with legend Rodger B. MacGowan, who has worked on the designs of over 250 war games and is currently the publisher of C3i Magazine. Get gaming tips from Justin Gary, former 17-year-old Magic-the-Gathering National Champion turned game designer, with his company's most recently released game, Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer.

If you'd rather play games than meet game designers, have no fear. The weekend is jam-packed with tournaments and special gaming events. Sun Mesa will host a series of Magic the Gathering events throughout the weekend with great prizes. Marvel VS. Capcom 3 will deliver the best ever match up of legendary fighters and no holds barred fighting action. Get set for the ultimate face-off when Marvel VS. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds comes to Strategicon on Sunday, February 20 at 8 PM, five days after its official release! For those who love games in which you get to be someone else, thirty different roleplaying systems are scheduled to be run at Orccon and over 110 individual roleplaying events.

Other special features include: Happy Jacks RPG will podcast live from Orccon 2011. Laughing Moon Chronicles will be running their roleplaying game and selling their new roleplaying book. The miniatures department also has a great schedule of events, not to mention the traditional February Broadside Bash!
