Oregon’s foreclosure rate is well below the national level, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association report for 2009’s third quarter. The report shows that 5.7 percent of all Oregon homeowners with mortgages were either in foreclosure or were more than three months behind in payments from July through September. The rate nationally is about 9 percent, making Oregon the nation’s 31st highest for borrowers in trouble. However, despite Oregon’s relative stable situation, the report did reveal that among Oregon residents with weak credit who took out “subprime” loans, 23.3 percent were either in foreclosure or at least three months behind payments.
