People have been wearing black dresses for many centuries in many countries. In Western countries black is treated even today as the symbol of mourning. They wear black dresses for funerals and hang black flags at home and in the streets to mark a death. In some countries such as Greece and Italy, wives have been wearing black garments till the end of their lives when their husbands are dead and have been a practice for centuries. Ironically, in many Asian countries, white is used as the symbol of mourning. They raise white flags and wear white dresses when some one they love is dead.

In Western countries, especially in heraldry, black colour is treated as a signal of darkness, ignorance and doubtfulness. It is the same with many other countries as well. On the other hand, black is treated as a symbol of prosperity in countries such as Kenya and Tanzania. Japan believes that the black dress or black colour is liable to gain respect. They, on the other hand, think that white combines with death. In Western countries, however, black dresses are taken most fashionable attires by designers. They think that black colour has infinite appeal with every other colour when combined with it.

Eventually, black dresses captured the popularity worldwide. Now everyone wear black dresses but in very fashionable ways. Whatever garments that are available in other colours, it is certainly available in black as well. The fact is they are worn even for weddings. On trips black garments are worn for most of the duration of their trips by their participants. The difference has come little by little as per the natural tendency of people to go against anything conventional after a certain period of time. Maybe it is the beauty of black after all that takes the imagination of the fashion world to make amazingly beautiful attires with black material.

Wearing just a black dress to cover the entire figure is not fashion. Fashion is not covering every thing with black to cover a bit of bright. Modern fashion designers have already created wonderful trends with black dresses. Garnered by imagination, black garments made by talented designers become charming and beautiful which can be worn to any formal or informal events. A ribbon of white draped around the neck or from the upper to the lower level can make a fabulous black garment. Ornamentation in various colours can make them extremely beautiful. Wearing accessories appropriately with black garments, their wearers can capture the lime light of the event that they participate in without causing any rivalry amongst others.
