Now that you have a blow dryer in your hands, you will find that it can be used for other thing besides drying hair, clothes and stockings. Believe it or not, having a blow dryer at home can be a domestic lifesaver. Homemakers around the world have found various uses for a gust of warm air, and a few tips might come on handy in a pesky home situation.
Remove sticky papers.
Reorganizing your photo album but its so old that the photographs have begun to stick? Need to remove that sticker tag before you wrap that gift? Plug in the blowdryer and use the warm setting. The hot air will loosen and melt the glue/sticker components, making them easier to remove after a few seconds.
Clean crayons from walls.
No need to get ballistic next time your kids write on their walls. In fact, with a blow dryer in hand, you may even let them write on their own room's walls. Removing them is easy as pie; using the hairdryer can melt the wax, only reducing the cleanup to a mere wipe or two.
Remove water stains from mirrors and wood.
You might have discovered that you warm air pistol can effectively eliminate steam from mirrors, but it is just as effective in preventing dried out water stains. Wash the mirror again with water and use your hairdryer to quickly evaporate the water. Water stains on wood surfaces are also quick to wipe out; try a warm setting over those stains on beautiful wood that you thought would never come out. A quick buff after and your upholstery might even look better than when it was new.
Dry salad greens.
No need to spend needlessly and buy a salad spinner when you can easily dry your greens with a blow dryer. Use the cool setting and your salad will not be watery and tasteless, while still being crisp and flavorful.
Gloss frosting.
An old trick with home bakers. Use the warm setting to set a gloss over iced cakes to give them that near-professional look. When you live in colder places where frosting gets too cold to spread, there is no need to crank up the microwave. A blow dryer could work much, much better.
Iron shower curtains.
Since you can't put polyester or plastic shower sheets in heat for two long, what you need is controlled heat. This is where your trusty blowdryer comes in. Lay it out with a towel underneath and blow away to remove all the crinkles and that old look.
Clean radiators.
Does your radiator or heater overdue for a thorough cleaning? A hair dryer can puff out the dust and dirt from the tiniest of cracks, especially on a crevice-laden contraption as a radiator. This works wonders in cleaning grates, grills, nooks and crannies of your AC.
Pack with clear wrap.
Packing with clear wrap so that mites and dust cant get to delivered items is a nifty idea, but to get that tight effect, you need to make the clear wrap more pliable. Do this with a few bursts of warm air from a hair dryer, and its like working with cool near-liquid plastic.
Try these whenever you get the chance, and you'll get a new appreciation for hairdryers. Next time you know it, a home would not be so without it.
