Over 50 OWS demonstrators arrested for attempting to encamp vacant church lot

(Free-Press-Release.com) December 19, 2011 -- Continuing their Occupy Wall Street protests, around 50 NYC protesters have been arrested Saturday after attempting climb a chain-link fence around a church parking lot to settle to and make their new encampment.

Using a wooden ladder, the demonstrators climbed the parking lot owned by the Trinity Church. Police took action accordingly, resulting in the capture of over 50 people, men and women alike."We are unstoppable. Another world is possible," and "Whose street? Our street," were among the chants from the protesters, who blocked some streets as they marched through.

James Cooper, Trinity Church’s spokesperson said "We are saddened that OWS protesters chose to ignore yesterday's messages". Cooper stated that the vacant lot the protesters were trying to claim "has no facilities to sustain a winter encampment. In good conscience and faith, we strongly believe" erecting a camp there "would be wrong, unsafe, unhealthy, and potentially injurious."

Because they’ve been captured, the demonstrators who climbed face possible charges of trespassing and minor destroying of private property. Nevertheless, the church’s authorities seem to have forgiven the people and just wished for them to be released immediately.
