Parents, many of those who have lost children, have joined and grown in strength and numbers through on-line chats regarding the grief that consumed them after the deaths of their children. For most, not all, they found a common thread; prescription opioids.

OXYCONTIN = HEROIN

May 10, 2007 - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Office of Criminal Investigations (OCI) announced today that The Purdue Frederick Company, Inc. has agreed to pay more than $700 million to resolve criminal charges and civil liabilities in connection with several illegal schemes to promote, market and sell OxyContin, a powerful prescription pain reliever that the company produces.
Now it is October 2009 and this drug is still causing deaths, crimes and mayhem across the United States. Purdue is still manufacturing Oxycontin and doctors are still prescribing Oxycontin. Purdue is making a mockery of our legal system. Paying fines for a company that seems to have an endless means of financial support is not enough. There is the need to have this product banned from being used for general pain management.
• OxyContin is blamed for almost 1,000 deaths per year – and that number continues to rise.

• In Florida alone they are counting 11 per day deaths due to Oxycontin
• OxyContin theft is become more and more of a law-enforcement problem, with over 2,000 OxyContin related crimes committed last year alone.
• Emergency room visits as a result of OxyContin use number in the "five figures" across the United States and two years ago topped 20,000 for the first time.
