Palm WebOS 1.2 Available Now

(Free-Press-Release.com) September 29, 2009 -- Palm Pre owners should go update their phone, as webOS 1.2 is now available for download. This comes on the heels of a slew of leaks and, of course, an iTunes update that broke the Pre's ability to sync with Apple's software. The bad news is: webOS 1.2 does not fire a volley back in the neverending tit-and-tat between Palm and Apple regarding iTunes syncing. If you have iTunes 9.01, upgrading to webOS 1.2 will not let you sync with your Pre.

The good news is: webOS 1.2 is full of lots of other goodies. You can buy Amazon MP3 songs over a phone network (not just Wi-Fi), the groundwork for e-commerce in now there, and browser bookmarks are not backed up with your profile. There are dozens of tweaks and changes; virtually every included app and service has seen some improvement. For the full list, check out Palm's release notes.

Palm webOS 1.2 will offer paid apps and other features

Engadget is reporting the news that a PreCentral forum member inadvertently gained access to webOS 1.2. According to the article, the user accidentally flashed his device with 1.2 when he went to reset his phone back to factory settings. The bug has since been squashed but not before the world got a look at what’s to come in webOS 1.2.

Among the features discovered were the ability to put your account information into the App Catalog, a Select All option in the edit menu of the browser, and some other tweaks.

It should come as no surprise that the next version of the OS will support paid apps given that Palm previously announced that it would take submissions for paid apps mid-september.

So, given the above, will we see an update in the next couple of weeks?
