PALO ALTO, CA – September 1, 2011 – Palo Alto Family YMCA announced today that its World Culture Festival will take place Saturday, Sept. 10, from 2 to 5 p.m. The free event is open to everyone and celebrates the diversity of the community, showcasing a variety of cultural talent in Palo Alto and from surrounding communities. The YMCA’s Diversity Committee is hosting the event that will feature musical and dance performances at 3412 Ross Road in Palo Alto.
“We hope everyone will join us for a wonderful afternoon, so we can celebrate the diversity of Palo Alto,” said Patty Doolittle, director of Administrative Services at the Y. “By participating, everyone will be able to enjoy and learn more about other cultures while being entertained with music and dance.”
The event will feature performances by local world dance and music groups who are volunteering their time to entertain. Performances will include Indian Classical and Indian Fusion dance, Hula, Native American Dance, Belly Dancing and Chinese Guzheng (zither) music. Performers from the Y’s Belly Dance and Hula classes will also showcase their talents, led by instructors Yolanda Jenks and Nerissa Wong-VanHaren.
