After a long, tough fight, Park City and Summit County have reached an agreement with a developer who sought legislation to sidestep local zoning. The entities have agreed to allow Bountiful-based attorney and developer Greg Ericksen to build a movie studio on land just outside the Park City line near Quinn’s Junction at the intersection of U.S. Highway 40 and state Route 248.Both Park City and Summit County had fought the proposal. In 2010 and 2011, they mounted successful lobbying efforts at the Utah Legislature to stop bills that would have allowed Ericksen to develop his land despite local zoning ordinances.Summit ?ounty and Park City officials said then that the project was too big for the available acreage. They cast the debate as state interference in local government. But the idea of Ericksen bringing Raleigh Studios, a huge international company, to Utah swayed some state officials and legislative leaders, who vowed to help him.Late Wednesday afternoon, Summit County and Park City released a prepared statement that said Ericksen can bring Raleigh Studios to Quinn’s Junction. His proposal includes an entertainment center, hotel and media center.According to the statement, Ericksen must annex the property, some 29 acres, into Park City.“The city fought against this project for many years,” said Park City Manager Tom Bakaly. “Over the past year, it became increasingly apparent that the high level of interest in this project at the Utah Legislature, coupled with the pending lawsuit between Ericksen and Summit County, made it highly likely that a movie studio would be built in the Quinn’s Junction area.”
