FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) January 24, 2012 -- VERNONIA, Ore. – Parr Lumber, a leading Northwest building materials retailer based in Hillsboro, donated 14 pallets of sandbags to the city of Vernonia as the Nehalem River rises due to heavy rain. The sandbags were delivered across from City Hall on Chief Corner on Tuesday morning.

Efforts are now underway to begin sandbagging side streets and homes in danger of flooding in the coming days as heavy rains continue.

Historically Vernonia is one of the communities hit hardest when heavy rain covers the region. When the city experienced floods in 2007 Parr Lumber deployed its event trailer, feeding more than 1,000 flood victims many of whom had been without electricity for more than a week. Parr also donated more than $5,000 worth of supplied and tools to Columbia County Emergency Service Personnel.

“Vernonia has been through many rough winters and struck multiple times by flooding. Parr Lumber is so glad to be able to help the community,” said David Hamill, Chief Executive Officer of The Parr Company. “We’re hopeful those in need will be able to use the sandbags to protect their homes and belonging.”

In 2009 Parr Lumber was quick to respond and deliver sandbags to Chehalis, Wash. as more than 40,000 residents we urged to evacuate their homes due to rising waters of the Chehalis, Cowlitz and Newaukum Rivers and Dillenbaugh Creek.
