Patients at risk from irresponsible advertising strategies
Patients at risk from irresponsible advertising strategies
With the increase in Cosmetic Surgery within the UK, competition is fearce and with this comes the increased advertising costs and skills in order to deliver patient numbers. But at what cost?
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) June 30, 2011 --
Women seem to be the focus when it comes to Cosmetic Surgery, with the Female to Male split of Cosmetic Surgery patient still being 90% Female within the UK. Obviously this information is available to the marketing people that then focus their skills that put patients at risk when cowboy cosmetic surgery clinics use irresponsible adverts to seduce these clients into having quickie lunchtime facelifts or liposuction. Or even discount five-in-one operations, similar to that of Heidi Montag, the US Celebrity made famous in the MTV Show ‘The Hills’.
Adverts targeting women in glossy magazines often give patients unrealistic expectations and encourage them to make snap decisions about breast enlargements, tummy tucks and liposuction.
Andrew Cooper, MD & CEO of Surgery-Network.Com said there was a 'disturbing trend' for clinics to use airbrushed models and special offers to sell women operations they didn't necessarily need.
Mr Cooper, an experience individual within the Aesthetic Surgery industry, said: 'I have seen all sorts of offers in my career working within Cosmetic Surgery but I am very concerned about the quality of some of the adverts in some women’s magazines, many of them seem to push the cheap price as the main area of importance.’
'The simple idea of a having an operation of any nature in your lunch break I appreciate is appealing but it is simply not possible. Many of these adverts have been airbrushed and are encouraging false expectations of cosmetic surgery. Young women in particular are being seduced by adverts in these magazines. For theses providers it is simply a numbers game, rather than patient care and ensuring the patient is fully informed with realistic expectations.
With this in mind it is hardly surprising that a number of women are seeking compensation after being left disappointed or injured by botched operations.
Surgery-Network offers a Home Based Business Opportunity for people wanting to establish themselves as Cosmetic Surgery Councillors within their own region. With expert training and support, they can fully understand the patient’s expectation and explain fully all aspects of the Patient Journey ensuring that the client is placed with a Fully Qualified GMC Registered Surgeon within a Care Quality Commission (CQC) registered hospital offering a comprehensive package of aftercare for the patient.
