Personal Account Details of Face book users Stolen

The security firm, Seculert had revealed that a majority of the information had been leaked from the most famous social networking site, Face Book. The worm was a known one, named Ramnit which is around hacking the details from around April 2010. The worm had also hacked personal details of customers from the database of banks too. When questioned on the issue, the Face book officials said that they were looking into the issue and were trying to solve it.

The purpose of hacking the login credentials is that the hackers use these details to log in to the face book accounts and spread infectious links to their friends and families thereby causing a greater spread of the virus. The hackers have aimed to attack the social networking sites because a large database of user’s details have been stored in these sites and also that these sites have a lot of users active. According to Seculert, around 8, 00, 000 machines were affected by the Ramnit worm from September 2011 to December 2011. In July 2011 a Symantec report estimated that Ramnit worm variants accounted for 17.3% of all new malicious software infections.

Face book officials also had a say on this issue. They say that they have received details from the external security researches which contain a list of the login credentials that had been hacked. When the login credentials were checked out and found that most of the details were outdated and not used by the users at all. They also said that they have been taking remedial measures to ensure the security of their users and their details. They had also advised the face book users not to click on unknown links or sites and get into trouble unwantedly.
