Narrated by the ever popular Nabil Sawalha, the performers were not shaken by the technical difficulties experienced by the Pro-4 technical crew. Audience members cheered on the show as the Pro-4 team fumbled with the musical score.
It seems the “Wolf” should have been the least of the Duck’s worries in the story, but the tech team proved to be the real bad wolf in the production. The dancers, some as young as 4 years of age, who portrayed the pond and frogs persevered and were not shaken, as the technical “surprises” were not a surprise. The Pro4 Team was so unprepared for the show that the dancers had to perform their dress rehearsal on the parking lot concrete because the Pro4 Team did not have the stage erected on time.
Pro4 Directors Eyad and Emad Deeb could not be reached for comment. It seems this group is really not as professional as their name implies. The children of the show were forced to even clear the stage before they could begin performing.
“I was disappointed to hear Pro4 was providing the technical support for the festival. I tried contacting them several weeks before the show but they did not return any emails or calls. They were the technical sponsor for the Nutcracker last year and they did the same thing to us. Their lackadaisical attitude not only undermines the weeks and months of hard work put into these productions, but it compromises the safety of the performers. Several high voltage cables had to be crossed in order for the dancers to access the stage and they refused to put up any retainers to ensure no one would fall from the stage. The list goes on for the abuses experienced by the School of Amman Ballet. These guys are simply used to providing sub-standard services, and I guess people around here accept it.” Melissa Sweiss, Director, The School of Amman Ballet.
Regardless of the attempts of Pro4 to ruin the production, Peter and the Wolf proved to be the highlight of the festival. Audiences packed the stage to see Peter and the Wolf and then quickly dispersed when the following act by Tempo Dance School began.
Peter and The Wolf sponsored by Kentucky Fried Chicken and Royal Jordanian Airlines was a community outreach program to support arts in Amman through The School of Amman Ballet.
