FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) August 27, 2009 --
Greenville, South Carolina, the newest, yet to be named team of the Premier Basketball League (PBL), made a key staff edition today by acquiring 18 year NBA veteran and Clemson legend Wayne “Tree” Rollins.
Mr. Rollins will assume Head Coaching duties for the team, according to Peter Flournoy, President of Basketball Operations for the PBL expansion club.
“We are extremely excited about the addition of Tree Rollins to our franchise,” said Flournoy. We wanted to develop a team that represents the best of South Carolina basketball. We’ve started off on the right foot by adding one of Clemson University’s most celebrated basketball players of all time.”
With an 18-year NBA playing career, Rollins enjoyed one of the longest tenures in the history of the league. He has a combined 28 years of overall NBA experience, 10 of which were at the assistant coaching level in Orlando, Washington, and Indiana.
According to Flournoy, Rollins fits nicely within the overall objectives of the new South Carolina team, which plans to rely heavily on community activities and involvement to generate interest and support.
"While having 28 years of combined NBA experience is impressive, Coach Rollins’ burning passion to give back to the community is what made the decision easy,” said Flournoy.
The team, whose naming rights have been placed in the hands of the community via a “Name Challenge Contest”, will play at Timmons arena, on the campus of Furman University. Rollins is eager to get started.
“I cannot wait to get back to the Greenville area and for the whole franchise to get involved in the community,” commented Rollins. “When I commit to something, I give my all. I’ll be the first one in the office, and the first one reaching out in the community every opportunity that I get."
Flournoy added, “The hiring of Coach Rollins was deeper than the fact that he graduated from nearby Clemson. We hired Coach Rollins because we believe he can lead us to a PBL Championship this season, and rest assured…that is our goal!"
The 20-game PBL season for Greenville is tentatively slated to begin the first week of January of 2010. The deadline to contribute to the “Name Challenge Contest” is September 5th. Visit www.scprobasketball.com for more information.
