Recent announcements like Cardinal Health purchasing Kinray Inc., a leading pharma distributor with a presence in the New York metropolitan area – draws attention to the pharmacy distribution model and the effects of the acquisition on community pharmacies are unclear. The business deal proposes to enhance Cardinal’s capability to cater to retail independent pharmacies in the northeastern U.S. markets. Kinray was one of the largest privately held distributors of generic, pharmaceutical and various home health care products and had annual revenues of over $3.5 billion. The company served over 2,000 independent retail pharmacy customers as a distributor of both generic and branded pharmaceutical products.
