FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Manhattan, New York, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) May 23, 2011 -- The Forward Thinking Museum presents Ciphers, photographer Christoph Gielen's series of urban aerial imagery. An intricate visual puzzle of geometric forms, shapes, curves and patterns, the show stands at the intersection of art and environmental politics.

Gielen's visual artistry plays off the juxtaposition of man-made structure and organic elements – roads and highways suspended above meadows, concentric circles of buildings intertwined with isolated patches of green, or tentacular architectural structures divided by long strips of water.

"One could imagine Gielen’s photos in both a developer’s promotional packet and an anti-sprawl activist’s backpack," say New York Times Op-Ed Editor Clay Risen, who wrote the foreword to the exhibit. "[…] by presenting his subjects as abstract, primeval organic and geometric shapes, he raises the possibility that such residential patterns are not the result of a corporate developer’s profit-making scheme, but a primal urge in the human psyche."

By photographing the urban landscape, Gielen portrays the psychology of mankind with mathematical precision without, however, displaying a single human figure in his images. His images are an objective outlook on the influence of man in nature.
