Planet Athlete, Inc. announces the official formation of the National Post Grad Athletic Conference (“NPGAC”). The NPGAC will be a conference of elite Post Grad Basketball Programs that will operate under one umbrella, with its Canadian sister organization, the National Prep School Athletic Association (“NPSAA”). The NPGAC will consist of member programs that focus on the development and exposure for 5th Year basketball players.
Post Grad or Prep School, as it is commonly referred as, is a year of study between your high school graduation and your college admittance. Players from around the world participate in this year of skill development, academic enrichment, and exposure. Players who may be academically prepared, and eligible for an NCAA Scholarship, may not be ready physically, athletically, and/or have the maturity level to play on the NCAA level, and feel that a year of high level basketball skill development, and competition will provide them with the needed confidence to play at the next level. Additionally, the player will gain unbelievable exposure to college coaches and scouts from all over the USA. Players who need another year for academic reasons, or SAT and ACT review and testing, will also find the year rewarding as they work towards increasing their test scores, skill development, and increasing their recruiting opportunities by playing against top level talent from across the USA and Canada.
A number of independent post grad programs from across the United States are joining the NPGAC as Full Members, and the Canadian NPSAA Schools are joining as Affiliate Members. However, the NPGAC has now implemented a Team Development Program that would place brand new teams in markets were Post Grad Basketball has never before existed. NPGAC has announced that it is adding at least seven new development teams in its East Coast Division. The programs will be located in Brooklyn, NY; Pittsburgh, PA; Buffalo, NY; Northern New Jersey; Southern New Jersey; Baltimore, MD, and Washington, D.C. The NPGAC is also adding seven new teams to its West Coast Division, with new teams being located in Albuqueque, NM; Denver, CO; Las Vegas, NV; Palm Springs, CA; Phoenix, AZ; Salt Lake City, UT; and Tucson, AZ.
Planet Athlete hosted over 12 National Level Showcases this past season, with two more events to come, The Newark Iron Bound Classic February 19, 2012, and the North South Classic, in Washington, D.C. on February 24-26, 2012. These events this season were open to any high school, prep school, and post grad program. The NPGAC along with Planet Athlete will host over 25 National Level Showcases and Tournaments for the upcoming 2012-2013 Season. However, while any high school team may appear in their events next season, the only Post Grad Programs that may appear will be member only teams. The NPGAC will hold a National Post Grad Championship next season, and the Final Four Teams will also be invited to compete against the Final Four of the NPSAA, and compete for the 1st Annual North American Post Grad Championship.
