On October 29, Dr. Linda Toche-Manley, vice president of Polaris Health Directions, will speak at the 25th annual Alternatives 2011 conference in Orlando, Fla.
Dr. Toche-Manley’s presentation, “Improving the outcomes of survivors of abuse: Focusing on resilience,” will advocate for the use of a strength-based outcomes system to assess and monitor domestic violence (DV) victims, and of clinical data for better treatment planning and long-term outcomes. Dr. Toche-Manley will highlight the role resiliency and strengths can play in the treatment process, and will present predictive models of the key factors associated with the development of resiliency. She will also argue for a more comprehensive, systematic approach to addressing interpersonal violence and its physical and emotional effects--one that goes beyond just screening.
The innovative clinical tool, Polaris-DV, on which the presentation is based is a Web-based outcomes assessment system that measures the mental impact of abuse, provides a platform for long-term monitoring, documents high-risk attitudes and behaviors and helps determine the likelihood of revictimization.
The conference is sponsored by The National Mental Health Consumers’ Self-Help Clearinghouse, a consumer-run national technical assistance center funded by the Center for Mental Health Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This year’s theme is “Coming Home: Creating Our Own Communities of Wellness and Recovery.”
