Political Activism - a Series of Hemp Fashion Shows in NYC

September 19, 2009

Get on the Grass is redefining political activism by raising awareness of industrial hemp through a series of modern hemp fashion shows in New York City.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) September 19, 2009 -- New York, NY September 8, 2009 – Get on the Grass (GotG) http://www.getonthegrass.com is a project intended to help legalize hemp cultivation in America by introducing New Yorkers to high quality and modern-styled hemp fashions.

GotG introduces New Yorkers to hemp fashions through formal and informal showcasing of the hemp industry's leading clothing manufacturers, such as: KanaBeach, Livity, and Hemp Hoodlamb.

GotG produced two formal fashion shows in New York City. The first show premiered on July 30th, at The Gates NYC, in association with YoMoFo.org and on September 1st, Cielo hosted the sequel in association with YoMoFo.org and Anna Ginzberg. Arrangements are currently being made for the next two shows, both slated for mid-late October 2009, including a Halloween show with custom-designed hemp costumes.

Two informal showings included an invitation from Tavern on the Green to partake in their Woodstock commemoration event and an invitation from Prestigious Models to attend their event at the Gansevoort Hotel's rooftop for Labor Day. At both events, GotG staff and models wearing hemp samples were there answering questions and gathering feedback casually with the audience.

Additional strategies include collaborations with like-minded artists, musicians, performers, activists, and other people of influence and/or talent. Promotion is primarily done through word-of-mouth and social networking.

By driving up demand for hemp clothing, GotG expects to help legalize hemp cultivation in America. The assumption is that business inspires legislation faster than activism.

GotG project manager and co-founder Mark Candaras explains, "As consumers demand hemp products, businesses will act to supply that demand. When American businesses begin to supply hemp they will realize the creation of US jobs and better profits when it is legal to grow hemp in America. Once American business leaders see that they can gain these benefits through revised laws, businesses will put pressure on politicians to adopt new legislation. We hope and expect our efforts will encourage this positive form of government lobbying."

Get on the Grass is a project of Hemp Amalgamated, L3c., a low-profit limited liability company with the mission to create positive social and ecological benefits using hemp.

Hemp is a non-toxic, zero-waste resource which is environmentally beneficial and provides excellent food, clothing, shelter, medicine, paper, plastic, and fuel.
