Positive Hiring News: 10 Ways to find job opportunities
We had published several articles about strategies to find job opportunities. In many cases, candidates can’t find the jobs because they don’t know where to start, the jobs are there, but most of the positions are simply unadvertised.
If you don’t believe me, try find Google jobs on some of the job advertising websites, you see, most corporations don’t even bother to list their jobs. One of my HR friend told me that 70% of the jobs are unadvertised, and those advertised are often repeated jobs.
So, here are what we do on the regular basis to find opportunities and prepare our positive hiring articles.
1. 1. Stop watching negative news
Again, stop watching negative news, I see lots of headlines are about Occupy Wall Street, I spent less than 20 seconds in reading that article as it is useless and none of my and your business. Most articles are negative news, human nature likes to report negative news and gratify them, stop reading them as they don’t help you at all.
1. 2. Social Media is the way to find jobs
Lots of jobs are now just listed throughout social media websites like Twitter, LinkedIn or Facebook. Networking is the best way to find jobs, I think there should be more jobs posted on LinkedIn and Facebook now than job advertising portals.
1. 3. Automate your social media job searching
I use a program called Semantic Force, which I find it quite useful; I set up keywords like job title, location, skills, salary range and run the report. It searches across hundreds of blogs and sites, and this can be narrowed down by setting up different variables. This speeds up your job searching process.
1. 4. Send some information to your LinkedIn & Facebook contacts
I receive e-mails from my LinkedIn contacts every now and then, I had put 2 contractors through this way because I like the way they wrote e-mails to me as I was looking for writers and online marketing people to help me. As you can see, that strategy works, so go through your LinkedIn & Facebook networks and see if there are any useful contacts that can help you to find jobs.
1. 5. Internet Search: 1st Keyword
OK, what we have done is to build a method in finding companies through news or social media networks. The first key phrase we use is “headquarter”, by searching news relating to headquarter, we can find many companies that just opened new HQs or head-office or facility; and this means jobs. You can narrow down this by specific the location or industry.
1. 6. Internet Search: 2nd Keyword
The second keyword we use is a combination of phrases and sentence. For example, companies that have received funding, or search for new export grant announcements, industry grant announcements; as funding = jobs. You can type in phrases like new clean-tech companies relocating to Boston, or Fortune 500 companies moving to Chicago.
1. 7. Monitor companies in the venture capital industry
We track activities across 3,000 venture capital companies worldwide – when companies raised capital from venture capital or private equity firms, they want the WORLD to know about it. By tracking activities of venture capital firms, you can find many emerging companies that are hiring.
Check our website http://researchwhitepaper.com for various venture capital directories.
1. 8. Industry News Analysis
This takes a bit more time, but it is a good way to find jobs before anyone knows about it. You need some creative thinking in linking industries to industry news. For example, 4G is rolling-out, you need to think what industries will be impacted: Like new wireless applications, Internet security applications, mobile games, Internet Data Centers. Or new policy for electric cars, you can then search for “electric car manufacturer”, engine converters, electric battery manufacturers.
You can usually find these related industries by searching on Internet.
1. 9. Foreign Companies are setting up headquarters in the US big time
There has been lots of foreign companies setting up or expanding their operations in the United States, capitalizing the currency and cheaper property cost at moment.
Another way to do this is to monitor announcements by various State department website as they will announce news relating to new HQs moving to the state. Another way is to track relocation, corporate office movement announcements.
1. 10. Educate yourself with more companies
The last strategy is simply to educate yourself with more knowledge, how many big technology companies do you know? How many banks do you know?
Just because you have not heard a particular company does not mean they are not a big corporation. One way is to look at listed companies on particular industry, or look at some of the industry databases to see the brief information about each company.
If you follow the above 10 strategies, I assure you that you will find so many new leads to find job opportunities.
