September 6, 2011 - The decision pertaining to the passing of Alabama’s illegal immigration law is shrouded with uncertainty. The federal judge in question has asked for time till the end of the month to review the seventy page law so that a fair decision can be taken in view of the many lawsuits that are piling up against the passing of the law. These lawsuits are coming from people who do not care about Alabama’s tax payers or having enough money to pay for the military weapons and hardware that is needed to keep them safe.
Worth the Trouble
With the decision still pending, optimistic officials in the Alabama government are already preparing for the change in paperwork that will be instated with the passing of the law. Immigration lawyers and officials understand the need for a strong anti-illegal immigration law. But at the same time this state wants to see job growth so they should not be against keeping highly skilled and talented immigrants out.
As per the law, everyone including immigration officials, government servants, immigration lawyers, as well as civilians will have to prove their domicile in the state. Car tags will have to be changed after residents and immigrants prove that they are indeed legal citizens in the country. While this will mean plenty of paperwork and inconvenience for citizens, it is mostly seen as a nuisance well worth submitting to.
Defending the Good
With more than $22 billion is being spent on food assistance programs and food stamps for illegal aliens every single year and a further $2.5 billion being spent on Medicaid per year, the reform law hopes to curb illegal aliens from entering the country. Immigration lawyers assert that the money that will be saved can be diverted toward the betterment of life for legal citizens in Alabama who pay their taxes and are good people. Some illegal immigrants may be good people but they should return to Mexico or their country of origin and work towards making their home country a better place to live.
