Los Angeles - New Frontier Democratic Club Celebrates its 50th Year of Service and Activism as the Oldest and Largest Historically African American Democratic Club with Santa Monica Mayor Bobby Shriver and Vanessa Bell Calloway as award presenters honoring Congresswoman Diane Watson, UTLA President A.J. Duffy and AFSCME International Director Willie Pelote, Sr. and Special JFK Honorees Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Board of Equalization Member Jerome Horton, CA Speaker Emeritus Karen Bass, LA County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, and West Basin Municipal Water Board President Gloria Gray.

The evenings salute to excellence will take place at the beautiful Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Downtown Los Angeles. Smooth Jazz Guitarist Freddie Foxx live band featuring R & B Gold Diva Evelyn Champagne-King will be on hand to serenade the guests. Congressman James E. Clyburn is the first South Carolinian and second African American to serve as Majority Whip in the U.S. House of Representatives. On November 16th, 2006, the House Democratic Caucus unanimously elected him to the third ranking position in the House, and he continues to serve in the post that is responsible for ensuring there are enough votes to pass the legislative agenda in the Congress.

Kamala D. Harris is a veteran prosecutor who has dedicated her outstanding legal talents to prosecuting violent crime, combating the sexual exploitation of children and working creatively to improve the quality of life in our communities. A former Deputy District Attorney in San Francisco and Alameda County, Kamala has thirteen years of courtroom experience. She currently serves as a San Francisco Deputy City Attorney, where she is Chief of the Community and Neighborhood Division. She is also author of the book Smart On Crime.

Singer Evelyn "Champagne" King first came to fame with the million-selling '70s disco smashes "Shame" and "I Don't Know If It's Right." Born July 1, 1960, in the Bronx, NY. Discovered at 16 Evelyn King was signed to a production deal and a contract with RCA, her first single as Evelyn "Champagne" King was "Dancin'"Dancin' "Dancin'." But it was a song written by John Fitch and Reuben Cross called "Shame," that gave her career-launching success.

In 1960, the New Frontier Democratic Club (NFD) was founded by a few African American leaders in Los Angeles whose concern was to provide this community with a political vehicle for involvement in the presidential campaign of John F. Kennedy. Today many of the same issues still evident as in

1960 demanding New Frontier Democrats play an even larger role in the community's fight for increased political and economic power. The Democratic State Party enables NFDC to focus on achieving five goals: Fostering active participation by the community citizenry in politics and electing qualified Democratic candidates to public office; Building a strong political organization that is receptive, reputable and responsive to the needs of the community; Encouraging full participation by the community in the political process and providing education and guidance in the use of this process; Promoting the growth and effectiveness of the Democratic Party; and, Identifying, training, developing and supporting potential candidates for public office
