Professionals interested in quality automotive power tools and woodworking tools tend to be some of the most self-educated consumers. They go deep into research when purchasing power tools and they are very loyal to those retailers with whom they feel a connection. Through a solid marketing and highly responsive customer service over since their beginning in 1978, Tool King has successfully won over the professional tradesperson.
Now, as an industry leader of e-commerce of automotive tools, woodworking tools and power tools, Tool King has launched 3 micro sites dedicated to selling tools to the professional tradesman. The idea is to sell one very nicely discounted tool each day on the micro sites. The main strategy behind this model is that it will keep the professionals do-it-yourselfers coming back to the site everyday to see what the deal of the day will be. Secondarily, this will keep the Tool King brand relevant and will be a great gateway to the main Tool King site where the tool retailer can gain the opportunity to sell more products.
The first site that Tool King launched to begin this strategy is Tooliday.com, acting as the more general e-commerce site for all tools, this micro site launched was received very well by Tool King customers. Since then, Tool King has launched Auto.Tooliday.com, dedicated to the professional or hard core auto mechanic looking for tools for autos. Additionally, they have launched Wood.Tooliday.com, focused on selling wood tools to tradespersons as well as the devoted hobbiest. According to the marketing director for Tool King, Ben Skigen, the original Tooliday.com was a beta test to see if the market would support such a model. When Tool King saw success, they created the other, more niche sites. Mr. Skigen says, "We are always interested in how we can innovate with e-commerce to creatively sell power tools. These micro sites have allowed us to increase the average time a customer spends with us online as well as interact with our clients. Tool King is now getting better at understanding our customer as well. We are learning more about there likes, dislikes, motives and needs. We love being able to listen then react to our customer base."
About Tool King: Founded in 1978 Denver, Colorado as a tool & hardware retailer, Tool King quickly grew into a major seller of automobile tools and power tools with multiple locations around Colorado and Wisconsin. Tool King later discovered the power and ease of e-commerce on the Internet. The decision was made to scale to one brick and mortar location in Denver, Colorado and start a website to sell new and reconditioned professional power tools worldwide. Tool King is now internationally recognized as the number one Internet power tool retailer.
