Premature Birth Caused by Artificial Sweeteners
New study shows that consuming artificial sweeteners can increase chances of premature birth by almost 80%.

ccording to a new study performed by Harvard University, Statens Serum Institut, as well as the University of Iceland, artificial sweeteners in foods and beverages could increase chances of premature birth by almost 80%. This is the first study of its kind pertaining to everyday, widely-used, artificial sweeteners.
The 59,334 Danish women participating in the study answered both written and interview questions from the beginning of their pregnancies, reviewing their daily food intake. The results showed that woman consuming more than 1L of artificially sweetened beverages per day were 78% more likely to give birth to a child before the 37th week. Women who drank sugary beverages, however, did not show an increased risk in giving birth prematurely.
