Buckingham, PA, February 2, 2012—The Solebury Club’s (http://www.thesoleburyclub.com) co-owner, Rob DeAngelis, understands the importance of offering a premium karate program. DeAngelis does so at his premiere health club, which is located in the Buckingham, PA region. Shotokan Karate is the most widely known form of this martial art that emphasizes deep, long stances designed to provide steadiness, empowerstrong movements, and fortify the legs.
DeAngelis, notes, “Shotokan Karate utilizes a colored belt system, which is used to indicate where a student is in their development while giving them goals to reach. Students progress from white to brown through to their black belt, the highest level. This martial art is very popular with all ages and it is a great discipline for children as it focuses on character building, self-defense and physical exercise. Plus, it’s a sport that’s recognized throughout the world and it includes team and individual competitions.”
The word “karate-do” is composed of three Japanese characters. Their literal translation is “Way of the Empty Hands.” It’s a partly accurate physical representation of this martial art, which emphasizes the utilization of one’s empty or unarmed handsfor self-defense. However, it’s also limiting, as karate also teaches students to use other unarmed body parts, such as feet and legs, to keep attackers at bay.
Karate has become popular for many reasons. Parents like various aspects, such as the fact that their children are taught respect, self-discipline and mental and physical fitness. Karate, which is deeply embedded with history and tradition, focuses on the entire body and mind. Although many classes are filled with children, the fact is anyone of any age can participate in this sport, which many enjoy throughout their lifetime.
“Our Shotokan Karate program,” says DeAngelis,“includes a tournament aspect that students participate in once they are ready. Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced students of all ages and both genders are engaged in our program. Along with group classes, The Solebury Club offers individual instruction. Plus, we have invite only classes.” The co-owner adds, “We follow the highest standards, ensuring that our students receive the best instruction possible and individual attention as they work towards their goals.”
