However, to make the most of winter, you need your master bedroom to be perfectly suited for the cold months ahead. How do you do that? It may just need a simple spruce-up: a look at how you could rearrange current furnishings, or a complete makeover including new bedroom furniture and a lick of paint.
Assessing Your Bedroom Space
We all know what we would put in our dream bedroom, but we also have to be realistic. If our budgets don’t match the dream then we have to cater our furnishings and furniture to the space available. Look at the space available in your bedroom.
Look out for any architectural features such as fireplaces, awkward corners and ceiling coving that could both hinder and accentuate a bedroom look. Take a look at your bedroom furniture, do you have space for a bigger wardrobe , a new chest of drawers or additional storage? If so, practically look at where and how they would fit into your bedroom. If not, look at more practical storage solutions such as drawers in your divan bed or storage boxes.
Getting the Right Bedroom Furniture
If your main aim this winter is to rest then you need to start by looking at your bed and mattress. A good quality bed or mattress can really aid the quality of your sleep. Double, king size and super king size divan beds will provide you with adequate space to spread out, whilst picking the right mattress will provide that extra layer of comfort whether sleeping or simply resting. Memory foam mattresses and hybrid foam/spring mattresses are engineered to providing comfort while sleeping, allowing you to both warm and comfortable during the colder months.
Creating a peaceful bedroom space is also about living free of clutter. If you find excess clothes, accessories and soft furnishings are clogging up the space in your bedroom then you may want to look at storage solutions. Chest of drawers, bedside tables , wardrobes and other storage can all benefit the look and feel of your bedroom, as well as clear away clothes, photo albums and other clutter.
The same principles also apply when choosing accessories. Additional or decorative pillows and blankets make perfect bedfellows but you need to ensure you’re not adding unnecessary clutter to your bed thus disturbing your rest.
Playing with Colour
Colour plays an important part in how we function. It can also help us rest. Choosing the right colour palette for your master bedroom will impact mood, emotion and physical well-being so it’s important to get it right. Bold colours can give bedrooms the sense of luxury and sophistication but they may not be beneficial if you want to create a calming atmosphere. Softer shades, including pale blues and pinks, will bring a tranquil peace to your décor. Your choice of colour palette is also important when choosing soft furnishings, artwork and essential items such as bedding or curtains.
