Today's seniors are eager to maintain their independence for as long as possible. To accommodate this need, Hale Pu'uhonua, a residential care home in Kea'au, offers its residents regular exercise classes and specialized computer software to preserve and improve cognitive functioning. Robert Olin, owner of Hale Pu'uhonua said "Preliminary studies indicate that using software designed for seniors to maintain their mental functioning does work. Our residents enjoy the software and for some it is the first thing they've ever attempted to do on a computer. Studies have also shown that doing simple balance, stretching and flexibility exercises preserves physical functioning for seniors and prevents falls, so we offer brief exercise classes 3 times each week and the residents love it."
Hale Pu'uhonua is located in Hawaiian Paradise Park, Kea'au. For more information about using computer software to maintain cognitive functioning and exercise to prevent falls, visit the "Resources" page on www.halepu.com
