Noah Mosely never lived in a fine house. He was raised with a strap across his back in the fields of a Mississippi plantation. After his mother's death when he was only ten, Noah decided then and there he would one day know freedom. At age sixteen he finally succeeded in escaping but if not for the Indian tribe who took him in, he would've died that first winter in the Arkansas Mountains. Now he's been thrown from his horse after a mountain lion spooked the animal, and Noah's leg is badly broken. The only help in sight is a small cabin, and all he can do is pray the occupants will either help him, or shoot him and put him out of his misery.
Noah is grateful for the help Carrie gives him, but the longer he stays while healing up, and then to help her get ready for the coming winter, he realizes he is developing feelings for her. Feelings that could see him hanged. Satisfied Carrie will get through the winter with plenty of food and firewood, Noah leaves, vowing never to return. But can he really stay away from the only woman he's ever loved?
Author Rie McGaha brings American history to life in this family saga. Incorporating historical figures and events into the story line with her characters, gives this novel a touch of realism rarely found in fiction. Cross The Line (Dancing With Bear Publishing – www.dancingwithbearpublishing.com, 258 pp., paperback, $9.85, release date 07/22/2011). Although previously released, DWB Publishing recently gained the rights to the manuscript, re-edited the work, and had their cover artist, Justin James, tweak the cover just a bit. The result is a story that will keep you engrossed in the rich American history during a very turbulent time, as well as rooting for both the hero and heroine as they overcome everyday obstacles, not the least of which is their different races.
Cross The Line won the CTRR award and has received rave reviews. Says one reviewer, "Cross The Line is a beautifully told story full of enriching details, heartbreaking moments, and historic details that have the reader feeling as if they can scent the smell of gunpowder and blood. Ms. McGaha brings soulfulness and heart into the mix with the unbelievable obstacles that Carrie goes through as she struggles to survive by herself and after meeting Noah."
