Print Universe Network Created by World Printmakers to Give Fine-Art-Print People a Forum to Show and Tell

(Free-Press-Release.com) September 24, 2009 -- Granada, Spain, September 24, 2009—Print Universe is the new social network for fine-art print people all over the world, launched by World Printmakers, the contemporary fine-art printmaking’s site of reference online since 2000. Participation in Print Universe is open to everyone in the worldwide fine-art printmaking community, from professional printmakers to educators, students, and printmaking associations; and including, of course, enthusiast print collectors.

Membership and all of the interactive services provided by Print Universe are free. They include a personal page where each member can upload his or her profile, images, videos, projects, etc. Members are also provided with their own blogs, as well as an event registry which includes a signup feature where members can schedule and announce their exhibits, open studios, art fair participations, etc.

“Print Universe is an exciting new departure for us,” says Mike Booth, editor and publisher of World Printmakers, “because of the added funcionality it brings to the World Printmakers group of fine-art printmaking websites.” The group also includes Spanish Printmakers and Print Workshop Central, a resource site for fine-art print studios worldwide.

Based on the versatile Ning platform, which is designed to create a complete social- network experience with an extremely user-friendly interface, Print Universe also offers individual design personalization for members’ pages, and a convenient application which permits participants to invite new members. Everything in Print Universe is RSS (Really Simple Syndication) enabled, thus permitting visitors to “subscribe” to members’ content and receive notifications every time it’s updated.

World Printmakers was one of the first web initiatives to take advantage of the universality of Internet to present fine-art printmakers from around the world to a truly international audience. Created in Spain by an American expatriate journalist and his printmaker wife, the site is followed by printmakers, collectors, educators, students, museum curators and print lovers from more than 130 countries.

“We can now offer fine-art print people not only display and sales space, along with extensive fine-art-print documentation,” says Booth, “but also a whole set of free interactive services like forums, blogs, spaces for images, videos and events. Participants can use as many or as few of these features as they please,” he adds. “It’s a free Universe!”
