Private Schools Palm Beach Stress Internet Safety, The King's Academy Holds Workshop

October 28, 2009

The King's Academy and the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office held a special "Internet Safety" workshop at the private school's campus in West Palm Beach.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) October 28, 2009 -- Social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, etc., can be great tools for staying connected to friends and family, as well as effective tools for businesses and other professional networking.

However, there is also a fair amount abuse that happens via social networking websites. Unfortunately, kids and teens often fall prey to this abuse because of a lack of understanding, knowledge, and, simply, innocent ignorance. Often times, younger generations don’t see the danger of disclosing certain facts of personal information or posting less-than-becoming photos of themselves and friends.

Private schools in Palm Beach do not fall outside of this circle of abuse, and The King’s Academy has taken action to educate their students on this issue.

On October 27th, 2009, Detective Tina Bolton from the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office presented a workshop on “Internet Safety” to The King’s Academy students and parents. There were three separate segments divided by grade level: 4th and 5th grade, 6th – 8th grade, and 9th – 12th grade.

“The presentation will cover social networking sites and how to stay safe while using them, cyber bullying, posting pictures, text messaging and videos of real stories from other kids who have made mistakes while on the internet,” said Bolton.

As one of the leading private schools in Palm Beach, The King’s Academy shows its commitment to providing direction and guidance to their students by paying attention to current issues. In this case, the workshop conducted was meant to help students learn about safety when using the Internet for social interaction.

The King’s Academy is a nationally recognized private Christian school serving approximately 1,200 students from preschool through twelfth grade and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Association of Christian Schools International, and the Florida Association of Christian Schools. The King’s Academy serves students and their families across Palm Beach County at its main campus at Belvedere Road and Sansbury’s Way in West Palm Beach and its satellite preschool campuses in Greenacres, Palm Beach Gardens, and Royal Palm Beach.
