United States of America -- Free-Press-Release.com-- Nov 19, 2011 -- Contrarily to typical American masters like Norman Rockwell's sweet and bubbly depiction of a Thanksgiving day on the cover of a Saturday Evening Post magazine, Sertan Saltan's ''Mrs. Cerna'' brings us back to todays reality of how sweet holidays find us in our urban living. The striking image of a young woman in the preparation of a Thanksgiving dinner, has started to appear on tshirts and prints in New York City streets making Saltan's work more collectable than ever.
Mrs Cerna is the younger sister of a friend in New York City, who is caught glancing at the artist, almost menacingly, in her hair rollers and latex gloves sharpening a large knife.
Sertan Saltan captured the tension between this odd domesticity and the wavering confidence of a young woman to perfection with Mrs Cerna which allows the viewer to meet this extraordinary woman and experience the richness and complexity of her preparation for Thanksgiving dinner’ and it won him this year’s BP Young Artist Prize . Sertan Saltan's website and Artist's winning portrait along with his self portrait
The painting is currently touring in the UK and will be back home in the first couple of mounts of 2012.
