Tony Hickson the founder of the Dark poetry movement, has uploaded his latest short film for the poem Dereliction of Beauty dealing with the issues of anorexia bulimia and decay .Tony says " I got the idea while looking at making a documentry on Pro ana (pro Anorexia) websites it uses a few shots of the iconic car park in Gateshead used for the 1970s film Get Carter starring Michael Caine the car park is being currently being demolished Tony says " It was a good idea to use shots of the car park before it gets pulled down it was a typical 1960s peice of brutalist architecture that ended up being an eyesore a hangover form the town planners brave new world of the 1960s that turned into a dystopia which fits in with the style of decay and body horror of anorexia and bulimia as well as the thinspiration promoted by the fashion industry" Dark poetry is a style of poetry known for its dark humor and bleak outlook on society focusing on the negative aspects of human nature and deals with themes such as isolation and alienation within society it is more popular in the North of England with poets like Tony Hickson Cyanide Sid Sabbath, Sleep Creature, and Kitty Va Voom.Tony is an auteur who is an award winning film maker and performer having screened in New York and Berlin .
