Programs After School offers affordable and premium art enrichment at Bay Laurel Elementary School, Calabasas

Programs After School is of the firm belief that premium art enrichment should not be exclusionary. To this end, they are introducing their unique SMArt Classes (Science, Math and Art hybrid classes) at really low inaugural prices to the kids at Bay Laurel Elementary school in Calabasas starting next week Monday October 4, 2010.

In order to dramatically reduce after school art enrichment prices, Programs After School has cut out the middlemen who are sports enrichment providers. Instead, the start-up is working directly through the Las Virgenes School District and has rented out the school's Art Room every afternoon, 5 days a week!

"It's all about the kids", says Programs After School Director of Operations and longtime Calabasas resident Richard Borland. "I speak as a stakeholder in the district as I have my own kids attending local schools. With the CA budget cuts in full force, our public school art programs in the elementary schools have been slashed to around one hour of tuition per month. I take my hat off to the teachers in trying their best to keep art alive in the elementary schools but they are not art teaching specialists and their time to teach art is so limited". "Our company philosophy is that the visual arts efficiently exercises the young brain's ability to learn how to innovate".
Borland goes on to link the creative learning to the other disciplines. "The visual arts challenges the young mind to be analytical and forces critical thinking in the creation of every piece of art. This learning carries forward to the sciences."
"We really don't want to produce a generation of followers of the new technology. Our country demands innovation and we need our children to become highly creative in all the disciplines. We believe this process is learned and exercised in the visual arts from a young age".
