Progressive Rock Central, http://progressiverockcentral.com is a new progressive music online magazine focused on progressive rock, jazz fusion and electronic music.
“Even though there are some good sources out there for progressive rock, fusion and electronic music, we contribute a different perspective, including music videos, and exclusive reviews and interviews with artists that don’t get much coverage in the mainstream and specialized media,” says managing editor Angel Romero. “We are also building a wiki with resources that includes festival listings, progressive rock radio and much more.”
Progressive Rock was first developed in the United Kingdom in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Progressive rock is about breaking musical boundaries, fusing rock with classical, folk, jazz or electronic music. It includes subgenres such as symphonic rock, space rock, jazz-rock fusion and the Canterbury school. Some of the best known acts include Genesis, Pink Floyd, Yes, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Gentle Giant, Camel, Caravan, Focus, P.F.M., Renaissance, Kansas, and Todd Rundgren’s Utopia. “Progressive Rock Central provides information about remastered reissues as well as new recordings by the current generation of progressive artists such as Ozric Tentacles, Transatlantic, Tangent and veteran artists like Jon Anderson (former Yes vocalist) who are still producing magnificent works,” says Romero.
Jazz Fusion became widely known in the early 1970s thanks to the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Return to Forever and Weather Report. “There are new artists and record labels putting excellent fusion material,” adds Romero. “You’ll find these jazz-rock crossover artists at Progressive Rock Central.”
Electronic music, also known as Electronica, includes a wide range of styles. Progressive Rock Central concentrates on subgenres such as ambient, deep space, chill out, global electronica, melodic and symphonic electronic music.
Angel Romero also runs the popular World Music Central site and the Spanish language Músicas del mundo. Angel has produced music shows for TVE (Spain) and has worked for the following record labels: Alula Records (world music), Lektronic Soundscapes (electronic music), Ellipsis Arts (world music), Legato Records (rock and jazz guitar electric guitar virtuosos), Music of the World (world music) and Mindchild Records (progressive rock and electronic music).
