Chicago attorney Jay Paul Deratany is involved in two area legal suits:
Masked Men Storm Restaurant Hosting Neo-Nazi Author, Patron Hit in Face
CHICAGO, Illinois (December 21, 2010). Masked men started a riot at a Norridge, Illinois, restaurant hosting a neo-Nazi author. The brawl injured at least one innocent patron eating at the restaurant, when a protestor threw a bottle which hit him in the face.
Prominent Chicago attorney, Jay Paul Deratany, has filed a lawsuit against Edelweiss Restaurant, and the author, David Irving and his publisher. "You can’t sue someone for being a racist jerk, but you can hold them responsible for our client’s injuries. Edelweiss owners failed to take appropriate security measures to protect patrons, like my client, when it hosted a book signing for a controversial Nazi-sympathesizer," said Deratany. "They knew previous appearances by Mr. Irving incited riots, including one lecture where a man was stabbed."
The author, David Irving, has repeatedly said that the Holocaust never happened. A British court judge called Irving anti-Semitic, racist, an extremist and said he has "misrepresented and manipulated evidence of the Holocaust."
"The Deratany Firm is dedicated to helping people combat injustice. Imagine going to a restaurant to enjoy a meal, and then suddenly being attacked," said The Deratany Firm's Associate and descendant of Holocaust survivors, Ira Katzman. "Clearly, event organizers should be held accountable for the serious injuries suffered by our client, an innocent bystander who just wanted to enjoy his meal."
For nearly 30 years, The Deratany Firm has obtained jury verdicts and settlement awards of more than $50 million in cases of serious and fatal injuries, medical malpractice, birth injuries, and motor vehicle and public transit accidents.
Des Plaines Police Officers Sued For Excessive Force in Police Shooting Death
CHICAGO, Illinois (December 21, 2010). One year ago, Des Plaines police officers responded to a 911 phone call to find 24 year old, 5’2’’ and 110 pound Krzysztof Kaczor wielding an ax. In lieu of disarming him with a taser gun, pepper spray or shots to his legs or feet, they killed him.
Prominent Chicago attorney, Jay Paul Deratany, has filed a lawsuit against the City of Des Plaines and the police officers involved. “Even if he was carrying an ax, they could have shot him the leg," said Deratany. "Instead, they shot him four times. An ax does not discharge any bullets and Kaczor’s reach with an ax was no more than four feet. We think we’re going to be able to prove and a jury will agree that Kaczor was not an imminent threat to the police."
