FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) January 15, 2012 -- January 16, 2012/National Visas (http://www.nationalvisas.com.au/) - Over the last sixty years since its original aim of building up its population for defense purposes, Australia’s migration program focus has shifted.
A Change in Focus
Over the years since the creation of Australia’s first federal immigration portfolio in 1945, the migration program focus and planning numbers have fluctuated according to the economic and political priorities of the day.

Nowadays, Australia’s migration program has moved steadily since the 1980s from encouraging family migration to a firm focus on skilled migration, bringing in migrants with the relevant skills to complement Australia’s labor market needs and skill shortages. In 2010-11, 168 700 places have been allocated for skilled migration.
Prospects on Australia’s Skilled Migration 2012
Since the 1980s, government policies were designed to target migrants with experience in areas where there is a skill shortfall through its general skilled migration program. Last 2010-11, record numbers of skilled migrants were granted visas to Australia, accounting for about 67.4 per cent of the total migration program, delivering 113 725 Australian work visa grants where accountants and computing professionals topped the occupations in the skill stream.

At present, the current skills in demand in Australia are listed in the Skilled Occupation List, with jobs in the mining, resource, and construction industries topping the list.
Currently, as Australia is plunged in a chronic skills shortage, Australian entrepreneurs are currently looking overseas to fly-in skilled migrant workers under the Subclass 457 working visa for Australia program.

Skilled tradespeople, engineers, metallurgists, as well as construction workers with oil and gas experience, surveyors, underground miners, and experienced mine engineers; both in underground and open pit, experienced geotechnical engineers, geologists, environmental specialists, maintenance staff, and senior level strategic professionals are in high demand in Australia, particularly in Australia’s mining states.
As the retirement of the baby boomers are looming, health professionals such as nurses and semi-skilled professions such as care givers and truck drivers are also in demand in Australia.
Skilled Migration Program 2012
Generally, an applicant must comply with the Australian visa requirements for Australia skilled visa to be able to apply for work in Australia. The work visa Australia applicant must be under 45, with an occupation listed on the SOL, with enough points to pass the points test, and with a fairly proficient level of English.

Under the Skilled Migration Program, there is a variety of relevant visas that potential migrants can apply for.
The 2011–12 Skilled Migration Program is set at 125 850 places for skilled migrants who wish to gain entry essentially because of their work or business skills. This comprises 68 per cent of the program.
Under the 2011–12 Planning Levels, the Employer Sponsored category is set at 46 000, Skilled Independent at 44 350, State/Territory Sponsored at 24 000, Skilled Australian Sponsored at 4,100, and Business Skills at 7,200.

In order to encourage skilled migration to the regions where skill shortages are particularly acute, the Subclass 457 Australian skilled visa Program is expected to continue to grow in size and scope across the 2011-2012 program year as employers who are unable to meet their skill needs from within the Australian labor force are expected to sponsor skilled personnel from overseas on a temporary basis visa in Australia--the Subclass 457 working Australia visa program.
