PROVOKE/EVOKE: Group Art Show at Industry Showroom in San DIego on March 4

San Diego, California, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) February 18, 2011 -- Art provokes and evokes emotions and thought. This is the concept behind “Provoke/Evoke” at Industry Showroom on March 4. It will also be the first in a series of monthly art receptions presented by Sudden Art Gallery and curated by Thumbprint Gallery. The Industry Showroom is a DIY creative business and art space located in East Village in downtown. The venue serves as a hub of various creative and holistic businesses with its own art gallery space, known as Sudden Art Gallery.

This first installment of monthly art shows will feature local artists such as Kevin Peterson who draws inspiration from surrealist literature and poetry in his paintings. This influence can be seen in his style, which he says, “has little to do with thinking or planning. While painting or drawing I let my mind drift, and place objects where I feel they need to be.” Peterson earned his BFA in Illustration at Laguna College of Art and Design. Peterson was also featured in “One Size Fits All,” Thumbprint Gallery’s group art show at the beginning of the year.

Jack Stricker, another artist exhibiting at “Provoke/Evoke,” has graced the cover of San Diego City Beat and was a featured artist at Thumbprint Gallery. Stricker has also participated in several group art shows at Bar Basic, which were curated by Thumbprint Gallery. The artist uses a combination of oils and spray paint, giving his work a raw but also refined aesthetic. Stricker takes images that do not conventionally belong together and fuses them into a world of animals, stencils, women, and graffiti.

Other artists featured at “Provoke/Evoke” include Steven Suiter, Scarecrowoven, Eric Wixon, E.vil, and Keemo. Music will be provided by local DJs. The event is free to attend and is open to all ages. You must be over the age of 21 to drink. The event starts at 7:30pm and goes until midnight. The Industry Showroom is located at 345 6th Ave. in downtown.
