A psychopharmacologist who includes alternative medicine in his practice offers a class in yogic, Taoist, and Eastern Orthodox breathing techniques for health and peace of mind on March 8
New York, NY - Richard P. Brown, MD, a psychopharmacologist who integrates CAM (Complimentary and Alternative Medicine) into his treatments, will present an evening workshop on Friday, March 8, from 7 to 10 pm, at the New York Open Center, 22 E. 30th Street, New York, NY, 10016, entitled œCultivating Peacefulness, Vitality and Compassion with Yogic, Taoist and Eastern Orthodox Breathing Techniques, for people looking to complement their practices with mind-body techniques.
œNearly all healing and spiritual traditions understand how critically important the breath is to our health and peace of mind, states Dr. Brown, an expert in both ancient and modern mind-body techniques, which he has taught to health professionals, veterans, 9/11 responders, and victims of abuse, war, and disasters around the world.
Dr. Brown will introduce attendees to a unique method that combines yogic, qigong and Eastern Orthodox monastic breathing techniques, gentle movements, and "Open Focus" meditation. The method brings strong energy, resilience to stress, and sound sleep. It dissolves anxiety, and provides a sense of inner peace.
The New York Open Center, considered œthe largest urban holistic learning center in the U.S., offers a broad range of body/mind/spirit studies that include yoga, reflexology, and distance healing. The Center also offers on-line classes. Tuition for the Friday evening workshop is $35 for members, $40 for non-members. The workshop, #13WHH84M, is approved for CEU's. More information can be found at opencenter.org on the Internet, or by calling (212)219-2527.
