This bathroom had been neglected for years. It had gone so far that when walking into it you had to step on the floor joists which were clearly visible under the linoleum flooring. When a floor is this degraded it is long overdue for repair and very dangerous. A Home Improvement Contractor should have been contacted when softness was first noticed in the floor.

The toilet was being held up by the cast iron drain pipe. The floor was rotted from one foot in front of the door all the way under the cast iron tub. Anyone could have fallen through at any minute.

Begin, 5.5 X 8 foot bathroom. The bathroom was from the 60’s. Green tub and toilet, vanity that had been painted white with a green bowl, linoleum floor with tile baseboard, and the tub had green tile shower surround. Floor as stated was rotted through; several of the floor joists were partially rotted.

First demo everything down to the wall studs and floor joists. The floor joists were still sturdy enough to attach the new joists to the side of them and back to the main supports. Original joists were 2X6 replacement joists are 2X10 to prevent bounce in the floor. Original subfloor was 1X4 boards these were replaced with ¾ tongue and grove subflooring plywood. Floor was then insulated with R19 insulation.
With this new base the new bathroom design could begin. The exhaust fan and light combination was installed and the electrical wiring for the fan, vanity light and receptacle were installed. The new fiberglass tub was installed and leveled. Plumbing was installed for the new tub. The cement backer board for the tile shower surround was attached to the studs with backer board screws. The drywall was then installed and finished. The walls and ceiling were then primed and painted.

The tile and accent tile for the shower surround was installed and grout finished. The vanity and granite vanity top were then installed. Tile backsplash to match the shower was installed. Next the tile floor and grout were installed. The crown molding and baseboard were installed and painted.
Brushed nickel shower head and shower and tub handles were installed to finish the tub and shower. The faucet was then installed on the vanity and plumbing attached. The vessel sink was the next piece to be installed and drain plumbed in. The vanity lighting and exhaust fan cover were installed. The shower door was the finishing touch.
The home owners now had a new bathroom remodel.
