Racquet Art to Sponsor Racquets for the Cure Tennis Tourney to Raise Money for Breast Cancer Research

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) October 8, 2009 -- The first annual Racquets for the Cure tennis tournament comes to Greensboro October 16 – 18. A round-robin tournament offering men’s and women’s singles, doubles and mixed doubles, Racquets for the Cure will be played at four local tennis facilities – Pinetop, Green Valley, Hamilton Lakes and Sherwood.

Racquet Art, LLC (www.racquetart.com), manufacturer of custom tennis racquet stencils, is proud to be involved in this great cause. Participants at the event will have the opportunity to have a pink ribbon tennis stencil inked on to their tennis racquet strings in exchange for a donation to Racquets for the Cure.

The tournament was conceived and organized by Teri Orsini, in memory of her best friend’s daughter-in-law, Tracy Pleva Hill, who died earlier this year at age 40, after a seven-year battle with breast cancer, leaving her husband and young son.

When Teri contacted Racquet Art and explained her desire to offer the pink ribbon stencils, we jumped at the chance to help. Racquet Art donates part of the proceeds it receives from the sale of pink ribbon tennis stencils on its site www.racquetart.com.

Teri explained her motivation for the tournament. “I watched my friend suffering and in pain, day in and day out, for months and months. But, she didn’t have breast cancer, her daughter-in-law did. I stood by as she drove nine hours up and nine hours back, numerous times, to be there for her daughter-in-law, son and grandson.

In early January, I made the decision to get off the sidelines and into the game. To do something, anything, to help in the fight against this disease that takes too many lives. This disease that impacts so many people. It’s not just the women and the men (and yes, men get breast cancer) who have breast cancer that suffer; it’s everyone who cares about them and everyone who cares about the people who care about them.”

Teri, her friend Peggy Hill, and a group of other friends worked with the Susan B. Komen foundation and the local chapter of Rally for the Cure to organize the event. Their goal is 200 players participating in the two-day event, mixing fun and recreation with an important cause.
