Radio station provides Southern California Nonprofit Clinic to help those in need

Radio station HOT92.3, KHHT and radio show host Josefa Salinas brought dozens of nonprofits to Marina del Ray recently and showed them how to get the one thing they all need: money .

The Southern California Nonprofit clinic called “Profiles of a Successful Nonprofit” was facilitated by Nonprofit Development Alliance (NDA), a Newport Beach based business consultancy that helps nonprofits in all areas and teaches them how to run like a for-profit business. The day’s event also brought representatives from the IRS and Board of Equalization, and provided guidance from the Attorney General and Franchise Tax Board. These are just some of the Five Watchdogs that monitor and guide nonprofits in California.

Many of the new and struggling organizations are looking for guidance with compliance and accounting and through insider tips were told how to get more money with less effort. “There are rules to follow and certain language to use to get foundations to support your cause,” stated Gitonga Kanampiu, president of NDA, and 20-year veteran of nonprofit management. “If you understand what they are looking for the chance of success is much greater.”

Overall comments from the attendees shared that they got “more than they thought they would get”, including Fred Duenas, the representative from the Board of Equalization, who has been to many events, who said “This was an excellent nonprofit event, and rate it from 1 to 10 a definite 10.” A larger nonprofit clinic is scheduled for spring, 2012.
