FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Fort Worth, Texas, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) January 20, 2012 --

February third will be the first official Combatives class to start in the 2012 year for The Academy of Combat Application Techniques in Fort Worth. The training center is the only one in its class throughout the entire DFW area. A Service Disabled Veteran Owned business; owned by former US Army Special Forces Combat Veteran Andy Curtiss and his wife Dora also a Combat Veteran, specializes in bringing what Curtiss calls "Tier one" quality training to the public. Even Curtiss' Assistant Instructor contracted to help teach the classes is a veteran police officer and former Special Forces soldier. The training center offers several programs to the public which include Military Combatives or Close Quarters Combat and Hand to Hand training, Mixed Martial Arts training, Tactical First Aid and American Red Cross, CPR, AED and First Aid training to name a few.

Curtiss also offer private lessons and home security consulting services for self defense. Curtiss; a security consultant for the United States Government is hard set into the philosophy that unless one has experience in a certain field they should not attempt to train or teach others. With that said he expresses his discontent that there are so many "Dojos" teaching what he refers to as "Rex - kwan - do" a martial art taught by a fictional character from the film Napoleon Dynamite. In the film, the egotistical martial arts teacher spends his time beating up the students and bragging about his martial arts prowess.

Because of the fact that Curtiss stays current and up to date with local trends both domestically and abroad in terms of security and protection he claims that he is able to deliver the most accurate, effective and up to date training methods and techniques available. It is notable that every Combatives trainer at his training center are certified "Shocknife" Safety Monitors and that they are the only ones in the area using this type of training. The "Shocknife" is a state of the art stress innoculation and exposure tool designed to assist Law Enforcement Officers, Military and Protective Service Personnel in overcoming fear and combat stress when faced with and edged weapon.

The Academy of Combat Application Techniques holds true to the military motto, "Looking for a few good men and women" in that the trainees at his combat academy are the elite. Not everyone who wants to train is allowed to train. Due to the nature and lethality of combatives, Curtiss refuses to train felons; ergo every candidate must submit to a criminal background check as part of their registration fee. Once the criminal check clears, trainees are given a period of instruction on Texas Penal Code, the use of force, deadly force, escalationa of force training and injury mitigation. They are then subjected to a 50 question exam where they must pass with a grade of 80 percent or higher. Only then will the trainee be allowed to continue in thier training. Curtiss takes these precautions in order to ensure that his students are responsible enough to learn lethal techniques that parlell anything that the contemporary law enforcement and military is learning.

Curtiss' claim is that he can teach his students two techniques to use against any attack against any attacker and that his trainees are able to execute their training immediately after their first session in most cases. He claims to stay true to the basis of combatives in that the techniques taught do not require strength and contitioning, they can be learned and applied instantly and they can work effectively against attackers of all sizes. Using what he refers to as commonality in training, stress innoculation, stress exposure and scenario based training he claims that none in the DFW area is providing the type of training he offers at the quality and price that his training center is offering it. In his own words he reminds, "look at the amount of money that million and billion dollar corporations and firms; and the United States Government pays me to teach many of the same fundamentals and principles. We are aiming at providing that very same quality to the average American that wants to protect themselves when the "Zombies come". We also want to provide some of these smaller security companies in the local area with training to parallel their upscale elite counterparts."

The Academy of Combat Application Techniques is now registering for their next Combatives course which starts February third, 2012. It is important for anyone interested to register immediately in order to secure a seat in the class and so that the back ground investigations can be completed in time to begin training. Curtiss says that the diversity of his class is wide spread and includes men and women of all shapes, sizes and age. He encourages women to get involved and says that Combatives are suited perfectly for women because they do not require strength or size. "I have a little 20 year old female that I would put money on against any male out there" he boasts of one of his female trainees.

The Academy of Combat Application Techniques is located at 5840 Jacksboro Highway in Fort Worth near the Sansom Park area directly behind All About Insurance. They are generally open from 7 to 9 pm Monday through Thursdays and on Fridays 6 to 7:30 pm.
