Shocking, yes, but this is the mainframe thought for many criminology case studies. So, just how difficult is it for female ex offenders to make it on their own?

In a world that's different from inside prison or drug abuse treatment walls, ex-offenders experience various difficulties in successfully reentering communities post incarceration. For those with a history of opioid misuse, despite various interventions, long-term recovery rates are relatively low. Additionally, the difficulties ex-offenders experience reintegrating with their families and communities are further compounded by the stigma and structural barriers posed by prior criminal and drug use histories According to a report by Nelson Jose Tiburcio, "Long-Term Recovery from Heroin Use Among Female Ex-Offenders: Marisol’s Story." Based on the sample that was collected, individuals within certain communities feel that drug users will never change. Most would probably agree that the norm is, once an addict always an addict.
In another report, the 2002 National Survey on Drug Use and Health cites that approximately 3.7 million Americans aged 12 and older reported trying heroin at least once during their lifetimes, representing 1.6% of the population aged 12 and older.
Are there female ex-offenders who leave prison and/or treatment and adjust to their communities? Yes. But it takes extra effort, determination and a good support group to live a lifestyle of abstinence and healthy living. "Drugs, Sex, & HIV: Courage to Forgive Your Perpetrator" an inspirational novel, inspires those who everyone else has given up on, to push the limits and take the initiative to change your life.
As you journey with the main character, which is recently released from prison, you too will see that the impossible is possible. Are there obstacles to reentering and sustaining life after prison? Yes. But there are also possibilities and resources to help along the way. A must read for anyone recently released from prison or in prison. Families can help too, by encouraging and supporting the female offender, and a great way to do that is by getting a copy of the book for your love one or friend. Your book when given as a gift will show that you care and the recipient will always remember who the book came from, years down the road. When the person has learned how to identify the parts of her life that doesn't serve her well, and then make and accomplish new life goals.
