(Free-Press-Release.com) January 17, 2011 -- RepossedCars is raising awareness about trading standards that issue a stark warning to anyone buying a repossessed car that they should always perform a car data check to ensure there is no outstanding finance.This follows a recent incident where an innocent Texas resident had his BMW wrongly repossessed by a finance company because the previous owner defaulted on a hire purchase agreement taken out on the vehicle.

Mr Glynn Fowler of Texas bought a BMW 3 Series Compaq privately from a man in Oxford but

a few weeks later he was contacted by a finance company asking him questions on the purchase of the vehicle. He was also threatened that if he failed to respond it could mean he was committing a criminal offence. Despite answering all the questions honestly the car was taken from outside his house, so Mr Fowler turned to Trading Standards for help.

This is just an example of something which can happen to you if you buy from any dealer without knowing what you are doing. Trading Standards explain clearly that when you buy a repossessed car, it is up to you to make sure you are doing something legal and hassle free. When buying repossessed cars online, this becomes an even more acute consideration.

In a number of ways, the laws surrounding the purchase of repossessed cars can be somehow complicated. Under no circumstances should you get in any sort of transaction unless you know for sure what you are doing is legal and in compliance with the trading standards in your county.
