Stresses usually appear during the different mechanical and manufacturing processes as well as during the casting and welding of materials and can cause changes in the stability of the system, therefore causing changes to its dimension and its resistance to fatigue and breakage.

For these reasons, and to foresee and therefore prevent malfunctioning and breakage of parts, it is extremely important to carry out an ongoing and careful monitoring of residual stresses at each stage of the mechanical design process. It is possible to determine the best processes for the components, the ideal quantity of materials to be used in manufacturing them and their particular structure, only by monitoring the qualitative and quantitative measurement of said forces.
SINT Technology carries out the measurement of residual stresses by means of various systems, the Sachs method (internal hole), the layer removal, the sectioning method and the hole drilling method. The company has chosen to specialise in the latter, selecting it as its reference model when it designed and developed RESTAN, an instrument with an automatic procedure created for testing residual stresses.
