GEORGE “BIRDIE” MATHES was an award-winning teacher of music for nearly thirty-years in the Greenwich public school system. In his retirement, Mathes has successfully turned his attention to another passion—writing poetry. Mathes’s first of eight contracted published books is titled God’s Eyes: A Voice for Those Who Have None (PathBinder Publishing) and was released in the spring of 2009. His second book, God’s Balm: For Those Who Weep, followed in the late summer. Mathes is committed to his second career as a published author of poetry, not for the glory to say that he is published, but to share his inspirational work with those who benefit from reading his prose.

As such, the reviews for Mathes’s work have been remarkable:
This might be a tiny collection of poems, but it has a powerful message. George Mathes sees beauty and grace in all of God's creations, and has the uncanny ability to imagine how each of them experience life, death, and all of the trials of this world. His poems will touch your heart and remind you of what is truly important in life.
- Michele Maher Masiello

I'm buying this Book because of the Author!! He is Brilliant, funny and thoughtful! I can't wait to read his words of wisdom!
- Al Caldwell

Mathes keeps in close contact with many of his former music students. He resides in Old Greenwich with his wife, Joan, and when he isn’t writing poetry, he is playing with his grandchildren.

Both books are available through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and PathBinder Publishing (www.PathBinder.com)
