Brown, MD, an integrative psychiatrist, will present a one-day workshop on Friday, December 2, 2011, at The Ackerman Institute for the Family, 149 E. 78th Street, Manhattan, New York, entitled “Complementary & Alternative Treatments for Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, and ADHD,” for psychotherapists.
The workshop focuses on research and clinical applications of complementary treatments for which there is sufficient evidence of safety and efficacy. Dr. Brown has selected those treatments that are the most useful for clinicians to integrate into their practices from the following categories: herbs, adaptogens, hormones, mind-body practices, and cranial electrotherapy stimulation. Evidence for efficacy and clinical practice guidelines for integrative approaches will include: Anxiety Disorders, PTSD, Depression, and ADD. Participants will also receive an introduction to breath techniques that rapidly relieve stress and anxiety.
The Ackerman Institute for Families offers a broad range of clinical services and workshops for families and practitioners. Tuition for the all-day therapist workshop, from 10:00 am to 4 pm, is $125. Dr. Brown is Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University in New York. He gives over 200 medical lectures every year, including full-day courses for the American Psychiatric Association and other professional groups. He is a certified teacher of Aikido (4th Dan), Yoga, Qi Gong, and meditation. His workshops have helped thousands of people deal with everyday stress and enabled survivors of trauma and mass disasters to recover their health and well-being. Dr. Brown co-authored the award-winning How To Use Herbs, Nutrients, and Yoga in Mental Health Care (WW Norton, 2009) with Dr. Patricia Gerbarg, and, Dr. Philip Muskin. Dr. Brown and Dr. Gerbarg co-authored Non-Drug Treatments for ADHD: Options for Kids, Adults and Clinicians, which will be released in February, 2012, by Shambhala Press.
