Ricki Lake Joins Doulas of Southern California to Celebrate
Los Angeles, Ca, 11/1/09 — “If a doula were a drug, it would be unethical not to use it.” Dr Marsha Klaus, MD .
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) October 29, 2009 --
A birth doula (educators and physical and emotional aids to mother and her partner in childbirth) was once considered to be for “hippes, new age crazies, and dare devils.” But studies have proven that the presence of a doula during labor is paramount in avoiding a cesarean birth, shortening the length of labor, and helping mothers bond with their babies. Newborns in supported births have lower rates of fetal distress, fewer are admitted in neonatal intensive care units, and their increasingly educated mothers have a statistically higher rate of breastfeeding success, reduced chance of post partum depression, and a higher regard for their babies and how to care for them.
This Sunday. November 1st, Ricki Lake, the producer of the lauded “Business of Being Born,” along with southern California’s most successful OBs, Midwives, and doulas are gathering for food, wine, dancing and awards at the 6th annual Doulas Association of Southern California (DASC) banquet. Awards recognizing outstanding work in the labor and post partum world will be given as well as a silent auction, live band, slideshow, and motivational speakers.
